Lane Assessment Factors

For a Lane Assessment, we combine the special handling capabilities of your logistics service providers with several external data sources in Validaide.
What external data is used in a Lane Assessment?

When all data is available for a Lane, Validaide provides an overall Lane Assessment on the following factors:

• Temperature Exposure: Assessment of the predicted ambient temperature profile compared to the booked temperature. This is based on the predicted Ambient Temperature Graph for the Lane.

• Temperature Protection: Assessment of the level of temperature protection given by packaging. This ranges from non-insulated packaging to the highest level for active containers and reefer containers.

• Pharma Quality Management: Assessment of quality management and compliance with pharmaceutical regulations. This is based on relevant certifications (GDP and IATA CEIV Pharma) in combination with core pharma capabilities from suppliers.

• Security Measures: Assessment of capabilities related to security (i.e. cargo theft). This is also based on relevant certifications (TAPA and Regulated Agent) in combination with core security capabilities from suppliers. Country Risk Score - The risk of origin and destination country is compared, and the system chooses the worst case. If one of the countries does not have a risk scoring it takes the available one, if none has a risk scoring it is shown as insufficient and is not considered when calculating the total risk score.

• Duration and Complexity: Assessment of total duration and overall complexity of the Lane. This is based on a combination of the number of transit points (legs), the buffer between target duration and actual duration, the on-time flight performance, and the World Bank Timeliness Index for the destination country as an indication of the import customs clearance process.

• Actual Lane Performance: Assessment of actual lane performance based on data input in the "Lane Performance" screen in the lane configuration tab.

The last four factors are assessed on a 1-5 scale from Basic to Excellent, whereas the Ambient Temperature Exposure is assessed from None to Very High.

Pharma Index

The Pharma Index for the Lane is calculated as the average of the individual evaluation factors to provide a relative measure for the overall assessment of this Lane for a healthcare shipment.

Below you can see an example of a Lane Assessment:

Each factor is rated on 1-5 scale from Basic to Excellent with the following meaning:

1. Basic:  May not be compliant with pharma regulations and provide a high probability of deviations.
2. Moderate: This may provide limited compliance with pharma regulations and provide an elevated probability of deviations.
3. Good: Likely to be partly compliant with pharma regulations and with a normal probability of deviations.
4. Very good: Mostly compliant with pharma regulations and with a reduced probability of deviations.
5. Excellent:  Fully compliant with pharma regulations and with a very low probability of deviations.

The assessment is created for the complete Lane by evaluating each transport step and Supplier. The details per step can be seen in the individual tabs in order to provide more indication of the low-risk and high-risk areas within the Lane.

Temperature Exposure

For each Transport Step, an indication is provided for the time in range and out-of-range in January and July against the booked temperature. This is based on the predicted ambient temperature graph and translated into an assessment from None Exposure (completely in range) to Very High Exposure. 

Ambient Temperature Exposure provides an assessment of the difference between the Predicted Temperature outside the pallet and the Booked Temperature Range. In the lane ‘Assessment tab’ when selecting the subsection ‘Temperature exposure’ you can find two columns. The additional columns are ‘Packaging’ and ‘Product’. For each step of the lane, we calculate the final product exposure, which is the remaining risk after having applied packaging to ambient temperature exposure.

Pharma Quality Management

For each Supplier in the Lane, we make an assessment of quality management and compliance with pharmaceutical regulations. This is based on relevant certifications (GDP and IATA CEIV Pharma) in combination with core pharma capabilities from suppliers.

Security 

For each transport step, we provide an assessment of capabilities related to security (i.e. cargo theft), which is based on relevant certifications (TAPA a Regulated Agent) in combination with core security capabilities from suppliers. Country Risk Score - The risk of origin and destination country is compared, and the system chooses the worst case. If one of the countries does not have a risk scoring it takes the available one, if none has a risk scoring it is shown as insufficient and is not considered when calculating the total risk score.

Duration and Complexity

This is based on a combination of various aspects of the complete Lane that are related to the Duration and Complexity. These aspects combined provide an indication of the risk of delay on this Lane.

Actual Lane Performance

“Lane Performance”. (Can be added/edited in the following statuses – in progress, internal review, external review, approved, about to expire, and expired.)

After having added the lane performance, it can be viewed under the “Assessment” tab, as the 6^th tab is called “Lane Performance”, which plays a role in the "Pharma Index".
