Route Assessment
The Route Evaluation is used to compare lanes or describe the lanes and lane assessments in more detail. The Route Assessment tab is available in the Route Evaluation menu, providing an overview of transportation route performance by aggregating data from individual lanes.
Lane Categorization within Route Evaluation
For the Route Assessment tab to display data, lanes must be assigned to the respective Route Evaluation with at least one primary or backup lane, along with either a pre-carriage or on-carriage lane.
This setup can be configured under the Configuration tab by categorizing displayed lanes. Once categorized, each lane will be labeled accordingly. When a workflow for the SOP is active and the SOP status is “In Progress”, all administrators and only editors involved in the lane, excluding contributors, can categorize lanes. If the SOP has no workflow, both administrators and all editors can categorize lanes. Both Freight Forwarders and Manufacturers can categorize the lanes.
When setting up lanes as part of a route assessment, it is important to ensure consistency in the type of packaging used across all lanes that belong to the same Route Evaluation. For example, if passive insulation is used in one lane, the other lanes within that Route Evaluation should also reflect the use of passive insulation. This ensures a correct and realistic route assessment for the passive insulation route. Combining packaging types that are not typically used together - such as passive insulation for the pre-carriage and active packaging for the primary lane - is uncommon and may result in inaccurate or misleading outcomes.
Note: This feature is available to all company types that have access to the SOPs menu item and are creating Route Evaluation SOPs.
It is calculated by combining key metrics from the individual lanes into the Route Assessment Pharma Index and Total Duration, giving users a clear picture of the route quality and efficiency, based on the combined results.

Key Calculations
The route combinations are displayed in descending order, considering the Pharma Indexes of the combined routes. The Pharma Index calculation depends on decimals, which are not shown to the user for simplicity. For instance, multiple lanes might display the same pharma score (e.g., 3.3), but the system sorts lanes by their actual value, which could differ by a few decimal places (e.g., 3.32456). Therefore, the lanes are sorted from highest to lowest Pharma Index.
1. Combined Route Duration
The total route duration is calculated by summing the durations of assigned lanes:
Pre-Carriage Duration: Time from origin to the start of the primary lane.
Primary Lane Duration: Main transport segment.
Backup Lane Duration: Backup transport segment.
On-Carriage Duration: Time from the end of the primary lane to the final destination.
2. Weighted Pharma Index
The Pharma Index on the lane combination reflects the overall performance of a route, calculated as a weighted average of the Pharma Index values across all lanes. Each lane’s contribution (weight in the calculation) depends on its duration relative to the total route duration.
Overall Route Assessment
- Lowest and Highest Pharma Index: Displays the route quality by highlighting the highest and lowest Pharma Index scores among all route combinations.
- Shortest and Longest Duration: Highlights the fastest and slowest route duration among all route combinations.
Competitor Confidentiality
- Forwarders see only their own data: Information about other forwarders is either hidden or anonymized.
- Shared metrics are aggregated: High-level insights, such as the total route duration or overall Pharma Index, are shared without revealing specific lane details.
- Manufacturers in the meantime can see all the data of the lanes.
- Forwarder B cannot see that Forwarder A contributed, the data related to Forwarder A is either masked or removed from Forwarder B.
- The same applies to Forwarder A, so the forwarders (competitors) cannot see each other's data.
Customizable Route Evaluation Module
Users can customize the Route Evaluation module by enabling or disabling the Contacts and Processes tabs in the newly added settings section. To access this setting, go to the SOPs in the left-hand side menu, open the Route Evaluation SOP, and navigate to the Configuration tab.
- Default setting - Processes tab enabled, Contacts tab disabled.
